Description

Divya Mehra's work addresses the construct of diversity, racism, and the effects of colonialism. Host Sean O’Neill meets Divya in Winnipeg, Manitoba as she creates a new work to be featured on the cover of Canadian Art Magazine, and travels with her to Delhi, India, where she initiates two major new projects. The first is a film that reflects directly on her experiences as a member of the Indian diaspora living and working in the Canadian prairies; and the second is a major new sculpture, a bouncy castle version of the Taj Mahal, which will be featured in a forthcoming exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada. Divya's refusal to be reduced to stereotypical narratives derived from her cultural identity impacted the making of the documentary, and Divya’s own footage and reflections on the process of being filmed and framed by the crew are interjected into the episode itself.
