The environmental movement stands on the shoulders of a few conservationists, most notably John Muir. Also known as “John of the Mountains,” Muir was a naturalist, author, environmental philosopher, Sierra Club founder, and dedicated advocate for the preservation of natural resources and the wild places in the United States. Through his activism, this wilderness champion became a pioneer. Muir’s spirit and legacy live on in our national parks, wilderness areas, wildlife refuges, hiking trails, and forests. This series by Michael Conti examines Muir's life, vision, and work as he pushed the boundaries on environmental consciousness.
