Happy Tails evaluates volunteers and their pets for animal assisted therapy. Hula and her handler are evaluated in four stages. Kris and Hula pass all the tests and can visit public places like schools, hospitals, and nursing homes.

Julian and Service Pig Maggie (04:25)

A Vietnamese pot-bellied pig helps a boy with Asperger’s Syndrome develop social skills. Julian was hyperactive, sensitive to noises and crowds, and had trouble relating to other kids. Julian became fascinated with pigs and Maggie became integral to his happiness and self-esteem.

Maggie's Helping Abilities (04:06)

The city said Julian could not have Maggie because she was considered livestock, but the family registered her as an emotional service animal. Because of Maggie, Julian is more expressive and confident; Maggie also helps him create and keep friendships.
