Semiology is the science of meaning, analysis of sign systems. Semiology aims to understand reality as a text. This video focuses on establishing basic assertions concerning the nature of text and presents logical steps of the idea of using text to embrace all of social reality.

Rules of Text (02:00)

The word concept "text" is a written form of any sort governed by social conventions. The nature of texts suggests that there are different levels of rules governing the texts. Rules govern not only the production of text, but also the interpretation of them.

Social, linguistic, and literary theories have understood the underlying rules for analyzing and interpreting written and oral texts.

Interpreting Text (01:18)

Linguistics analyzes the fundamental elements and structure of speech and writing. Literary theory provides explanations and analysis of text on a different level. Social theory examines the formation of meaning across contexts; thus, social reality should be studied as text.
