Anne Troake: Introduction (04:07)

Anne Troake works as both a choreographer and filmmaker. Her grandfather left Newfoundland to attend Ontario College of Art in 1927. The artist discusses how oceans and the sea play a role in daily life and informs her films and dances.

"The Sinking" (03:55)

Learning to scuba dive inspired Troake to choreograph "The Sinking." The filmmaker and dancers discuss how they shot the film and created the movement. The cold water reduced the artist's lung capacity.

In Newfoundland (02:56)

Robert Desrosiers tours Troake's dance facility and discuss its history. Watch excerpts of "Inhabitants." The choreographer worked as a movement trainer after the fisheries shut down.

Incorporating Non-Dancers (03:43)

Troake likes working with people who are not classically trained. Dancers describe why they like working with the choreographer. Troake explains that she likes to collaborate with her performers.

"Bell" (02:48)

Troake initially had a vision of four legged creatures in stilettos for "Exploration" and hoped it did not look stupid. The choreographer/filmmaker compares the two mediums and how she integrates them.

"Pretty Big Dig" (04:20)

Living next to a construction site inspired Troake to create "Pretty Big Dig." She learned the construction operators' vocabulary and spoke to them in precise terminology. Moving in unison proved difficult.
