Though industrialization was on the rise in the late 1930s, most American farms were still being run without electricity. To give the farmers a hand the government began to offer special loans for the purpose of buying power, and to publicize the loans, commissioned a documentary, resulting in the now-classic Power and the Land. This series presents Power and the Land in its entirety, along with two related USDA films and two companion programs that shed light on the original work. The films give modern viewers a nostalgic look at how homesteads were once run, but will also inspire discussion about societal change, economics, and the portrayal of American values. 3-part series, 56–57 minutes each.
