FREE PREVIEW
This feature film of Lysistrata, Aristophanes' shocking comic masterpiece, won Remi Gold at the Houston International Film Festival. The production features Candace Janee as Lysistrata, Heather Gault as Stratyllis, Morgan Marcum as Myrine, and Tanya Rodina (Miss Ukraine) as the Goddess Peace. This production has the benefit of setting the comic scenes in the ancient Greek locations that are hinted at in the drama but which are hard for modern audiences to imagine; for example, it uses the interior of the Parthenon for the scenes where Lysistrata outwits the Official. In this opening segment, Lysistrata summons the women of Greece, Thebes, and Persia; Kleonike is the first to arrive. Lysistrata tells the women of her plan to end the war. The women eventually agree, swear an oath, and go to the Citadel.
"Lysistrata": Agon (11:36)
Men try to break down the barriers at the Citadel and threaten violence. The women vow to put out their fire. The Official criticizes the women and orders the men to breach the gates. The women send a warning and go inside.
"Lysistrata": Parabis (15:13)
The Official enters the Citadel and learns the women intend to administer the Treasury. The women taunt the Official and Lysistrata reveals some of their plan. Cynaloplex gathers the men to train for a new kind of warfare.
"Lysistrata": Episode I (06:03)
Lysistrata becomes frustrated that some of the women have abandoned the cause; they invent reasons to return home. Lysistrata eventually rallies the women and restores discipline.
"Lysistrata": Episode II (06:46)
After a long period of abstinence the men are ready to negotiate. Clysthenes arrives and is taken to the baths before meeting with Lysistrata. Lysistrata reflects on her contributions and laughs at Clysthenes' threats. She declares the women can holdout forever.
"Lysistrata": Episode III (14:32)
Kinesias arrives at the Citadel and begs Myrrhine to come down. She seduces her husband and asks if he will vote for peace. When he says he will think about it, she leaves. Kinesias calls out to Cynaloplex.
"Lysistrata": Exodos (13:40)
Lysistrata and her comrade encounter Cynaloplex and invite him to the Citadel. That evening, Lysistrata introduces the naked goddess of peace and scolds the men. After a feast, the men acknowledge the women as equals.
