Total hip replacement is the most common re-constructive hip surgery performed in the United States. This program addresses important issues in caring for patients undergoing hip replacement. It takes a “systems” approach to postoperative patient management, examining the nurse’s role in caring for these patients. The program discusses basic types of impant fixation and how this affects post-operative care and contrasts anterior and posterior surgical approaches and corresponding leg positioning. It also discusses pre-operative care, post-operative mobility, post-operative care, and discharge and home-health management.
