In 1759, Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease for his brewery’s site; his signature became part of the first registered trademark in 1862. The recipe for exported beer was developed in 1801. Guinness introduced draft in 1959.

In 1886, John Pemberton developed a medicinal syrup that Jacob’s Pharmacy mixed with carbonated water. In 1916, Coca Cola introduced the contour bottle. In 2016, the company announced intent to become a Total Beverage Company; marketing is vital to its success.

Gillette (04:25)

King Gillette invented the personal safety razor, founding his company in 1901. In 1910, he started using athletes in advertisements. Gillette debuted the first twin blade razor in 1971 and released the Venus line in 2001.

Universal Pictures (04:11)

Universal Studios was founded; in 1912. “Dracula” debuted in 1931, inspiring the company’s reputation for horror film production. The summer blockbuster conceptualized in 1975, with the release of “Jaws.” Comcast purchased Universal in 2011; 2017 was its most profitable year.

Panasonic (05:32)

Konosuke Matsushita founded Matsushita Electric in 1918, producing the attachment plug. In the 1920s, he introduced the electric iron and bike lights. Panasonic continued product innovation through the Great Depression and Pacific War. The company has shifted focus to business lines.
