The SPCA took in nearly 300,000 abandoned animals in 2017. National Inspector Meg Wilson and 20 other animal rights workers and activists will climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness of animal abuse and cruelty.
The SPCA team climbs with guides, who monitor them for mountain sickness and provide encouragement. The team travels through five ecosystems as they make their way to the summit.
Mountain sickness forces one team member to turn around. The temperature significantly drops the closer they get to the permanent glaciers. Upon reaching the summit, the team flies the SPCA flag.
