Emmanuel is a 19-year-old member of the Baka pygmy tribe in Cameroon. He attends the nation's top primary school, but returns home to the forest for the summer break.
Emmanuel adapts well to life in the modern city, but is happy to return to his village in the Dja Forest. Zerca y Lejos runs a primary boarding school for Baka children. Emmanuel is the recipient of a scholarship to attend secondary school.
Emmanuel arrives at his village in southern Cameroon. Conservation and industrial interests push it and many other villages out of the forest and onto roadsides. Emmanuel has not been home or seen his family in nine months.
