Nero’s building program was bankrupting Rome. The emperor gave wealthy aristocrats a choice to end their lives and leave their money to him or see their families eliminated.

Nero's Demise (12:01)

The governors of Gaul, Spain, and other territories rebelled against Nero. The emperor’s mental state had deteriorated and he assembled a bizarre army. The Senate declared him an enemy of the state and he committed suicide on June 9, 68 A.D.
