Burt Rutan is an aerospace engineering, who designs energy-efficient airplanes. He has designed more than 40 manned aircrafts. He was a test pilot at Edwards Air Force Base in the 1960s.
Rutan started his own aeronautical company after leaving the Air Force. He started creating unconventional designed airplanes and selling designs to home builders.
Rutan built the Voyager for his brother and his girlfriend to fly around the world without refueling. The plane was incredibly heavy and needed a long take off area.
In 1983, Rutan started Scaled Composites and started making aircrafts out of composites. He says innovation has been slow in the aerospace industry. He hopes to develop the space tourism industry.
