Madame Duvernoy begs Duval to receive Gautier, explaining her consumption has returned. Gautier asks for Duval's indifference. The couple argues and embraces.

Duval follows Gautier to her apartments and discovers that the Comte de Nef forbade visitors. Nanine gave Duval a diary of Gautier's which explains how Duval's father came to visit her.

Gautier learns that Duval is spending his inheritance to pay off her debts. Duval's sister is getting married, but her fiancée’s family will break off the engagement if they learn about the relationship. Gautier agrees to leave Duval.
"The Lady of the Camellias": Gautier Leaves Duval (05:49)
Gautier becomes mistress of the Comte de Nef, but soon dismisses him. Her illnesses progresses, a priest administers last rights, and she dies.
