Monsiur Dumas learns that Marguerite Gautier died. The auction house is selling her belongings to pay off her creditors. Armand Duval plans to move the corpse to a different grave and cover it with camellias; Duval asks Dumas to accompany him.

Duval identifies Marguerite's corpse. That evening he succumbs to illness and dreams of her dancing and their courtship.

Duval wakes from his feverish state and agrees to see Dumas. Gaston introduced Duval to Marguerite.

Duval longs for Marguerite even after she insults him. Gaston explains that Madame Prudence Duvernoy once was young and beautiful.

Duval asks if she can get to know Marguerite. Madame Duvernoy explains that Gautier is under the protection of a duke and that she recently recovered from consumption.

Marguerite asks for Duval's forgiveness for embarrassing him. The Comte de Nef says goodbye. Gaston plays the piano while Gautier dances.

Duval leaves before the Duke arrives. Gautier asks Duval to meet her and the Comte de Nef during the third act of the Vaudeville.

Duval complains about Marguerite's relationship with other men. Madame Duvernoy explains that he does not have enough money.

Duval checks the bed sheets to determine whether Marguerite and the Comte de Gaux have been intimate. Gautier tells Duval that she has come up with a plan that will pay off her debts so they may be together.

"The Lady of the Camellias": Gautier Cancels (08:52)

Duval spies on Marguerite, because he believes she is seeing other men. Gautier spent the night with the Comte de Gaux. When Marguerite confronts Duval, he gives her a copy of Manon Lescaut.
